Our Veterinarians
Dr. Shawn Dutton is a 1987 graduate of the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Dutton joined our practice in 1987 when he and his wife Jan moved to St. Michael. They have enjoyed raising their family of two sons and a daughter, along with their dogs. He is a co-owner of the St. Michael Veterinary Clinic and the Big Lake Area Veterinary Hospital. He enjoys offering both surgical and medical services to our clients. In his leisure time, Dr. Dutton enjoys youth sports, running, instructing firearm safety, fishing, and hunting with his dogs.
Dr. Kristi McAlpin is a 2000 graduate of the University of MN, College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined the staff at St. Michael Veterinary Clinic after graduation and is currently a co-owner who practices between the St. Michael Veterinary Clinic and Big Lake Area Veterinary Hospital. She enjoys working with both the clients and their pets. Outside of the clinic she takes care of her family, which includes her husband, six daughters, and multiple pets. Some of her favorite activities outside of the clinics are gardening, reading, photography and spending quality time with her family and friends.
Dr. Laura Bloomquist graduated in 2011 from the University of Wisconsin-School of Veterinary Medicine. She joined the staff at St. Michael Veterinary Clinic and Big Lake Area Veterinary Hospital shortly after graduation. She enjoys working for a clinic that practices quality and progressive medicine while focusing on client education and preventive care. She currently resides in Maple Grove with her husband, daughter, two sons, two dogs and a cat. In her free time, she enjoys running, swimming, cooking, fishing, and cheering on Wisconsin sports teams
Dr. Jenny Ashton is a 1994 graduate of the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine. In addition to dogs and cats, she enjoys working with birds. She has a growing interest in complimentary medicine, including Healing Touch and chiropractic. She is married and has three children, two dogs and one cat.
